In general, Lowes of Southport is my favorite in the area compared to Shallottee and Wilmington stores. The only problems I have had are with the appliance department and doors. For doors, we needed a stock door on frame that they don't carry at the Southport location. The associate looked into the system and said it wasn't in any Wilmington stores either so we had to order it and it would take weeks to get in. However, I went to Lowes at University Commons and found the door right on the shelf! That wasn't the associate's problem, but an issue with the computer system. Now, for the Appliance Dept. Sorry, this will be lengthy. The last washer and dryer we purchased was from Lowes 15 years ago. When it finally died about 7 weeks ago, I went back to Lowes of Southport to buy a new set. They didn't have the units in stock so they had to put them on order to be delivered in approximately 2 weeks. I put it on the calendar and watched my dirty laundry piles grow, counting down the days until I could finally wash clothes and bedding for our family of five. Seriously, I never thought I'd be excited to do laundry! I was surprised not to get a call the day before so I called the delivery department later in the afternoon just to verify. The guy I spoke with took down my name and said that the employee who scheduled deliveries had just started shift 15 minutes earlier and would be calling me back with a delivery time. No return call. So, I planned my schedule to be home all day since I didn't know what time the units were coming. Finally, late in the day I called the Appliance Department where I talked to two different associates and got two different answers. I could overhear them talking to each other and what I was told was not matching what they were saying to each other so I really don't know what happened. The female associate was the most helpful. Something went wrong with the order, as my laundry pile grew, and Distribution never received the dryer. The associate offered an older model but I wanted what I paid for. The biggest problem is that NO ONE called me to let me know that my order had gone wrong. I sat at home planning and preparing for my new washer and dryer that possibly would have never arrived. Thankfully, the female associate gave me a full refund, even the warranty. If I had placed my order with her, it probably would have been done correctly. (Meanwhile, I am already angry at Lowes because of a carpet install with another store that went awry that I am still negotiating with Lowes' CPO and Stainmaster over so that made it even worse because I was already angry at the company.) I went that day and ordered my new washer/dryer set from HOME DEPOT and received excellent customer service by two associates who seemed well trained and eager to help customers. Unfortunately, they do not have their units in stock either so I had to wait another ten days for delivery. By then, Mount Laundry had grown to more than 8 full, black trash bags high. I was called two days in advance by the delivery company and Home Depot with a time block for delivery. I was also called 30 min before they arrived. The delivery guys were really helpful in explaining how to use these fancy new machines. So, I encourage everyone to go to Home Depot unless you have a lot of time to wait for Lowes of Southport appliance department to get their act together.
Sorry to experience rude salesman in tile department. I asked for help to find a tile match for builder Randy Moffett. I was informed that it was too much trouble and he would have no way of looking it up. Didn't bother to ask when my house was built or anything that would assist him to look up the tile to match. Nor did he even pretend to want to be helpful I do know salesman's a name but out of courtesy I will not list it here, he also informed me he had worked in the department for years and I pretty much didn't know what I was asking for. Which was true that's why I came and asked for sales assistance. We left. I have never experienced rude salesmen at Home Depot like this.
Love that almost all the employees ask if they can help you find something! Margaret at self checkouts is awesome!
Amy in large kitchen appliances is awesome. She worked with me tirelessly to put together a large purchase. Just moved here. Lowes is now my go to place for everything. Thanks so much Amy!
A big shout out to Rob who helped us Thursday night after a flooring person was paged numerous times with no one showing up. Rob did the best he could and probably better than if someone from flooring had shown up.
