The store was well maintained, there was no shortage of carts and parking was plentiful. Overall, a typical Wal-Mart experience for me.

* The selection of dry goods impressed me - I was able to locate most of the pantry items I needed for the week. (The selection of organic and international foods was lacking). As I mentioned earlier, there were plenty of associates stocking shelves, so the inventory levels were more than adequate. The quality of the produce was less than desirable - it took a fair amount of digging through the produce bins to find acceptable quality items. Fortunately, there are several farmers' stands in the area to purchase fresh, high quality produce. Prices were in line with other vacation areas in North Carolina.

It's a Walmart. What do you need to know. But the people at this one are particularly friendly and helpful.

This Walmart has a very limited selection compared to others. Store is clean, prices great of course and the have the basics. Staff is mediocre- a few employees are helpful but most will ignore you.

Meh, it's a Wal-Mart, but I needed to stock up on groceries before heading out to Bald Head Island for a week and options in Southport are limited. That probably explains why the place looked like a rush hour Tokyo subway during my two-hour visit to Wally World.

* Arrrggh, train more cashiers. I'm pretty sure this is not the first time this store was slammed on a summer Sunday, so what's up with the shortage of cashiers (less than half the registers were staffed). Ditto for the deli counter - there was a throng of people waiting for service. It not like there were a shortage of employees, there were plenty of associates clogging up the aisles stocking shelves.

A couple observations:

* Overall, the staff members I interacted with were courteous and helpful. The sole exception: the irritable staff members at the customer service desk. My inquiry about getting some boxes to transport my groceries on the ferry was met with a brusque reply that "we don't have any boxes". As I was leaving the store to find groceries elsewhere, I glanced at the back of the store. The doors to the stock room were open and in the back of the room was a veritable mountain of empty boxes. I stuck my head in and asked if someone could grab my some boxes and a cheerful associate gladly handed me a dozed boxes.

Short lines with plenty of cashiers for X-mas. Even got personally walked to my item in household gadgets by Christopher. Great experience...and they speak English. Quite different from our Wal-Mart in Maryland.
