Allow me to state, that I went with this firm 3 years ago, and being a small business operator and not understanding anything at all about taxes or proper accounting, I TRUSTED this firm to fully represent me and help to offset my tax liability with all the measures provided by IRS Code. I'm not perfect by any means and I know I'm probably not the best client to have with regards to taxes because I ask for explanations for things. I want it to make sense to me. Last Year in 2015 I bought a business and the new person at this firm, Christian didn't convey to me the tax filing deadline for the new company and we missed it. The only reason I found out about this was because the initial person handling my business was Tommy and Tommy made me aware and stated in an email that there was nothing that could be done at the juncture but to move forward. Well, I went to the state fair in Raleigh back in October and one afternoon I got an email after 5 p.m. that was sent at 2:30 that afternoon from the Firm Owner that I needed to get the form signed and submitted that day as it was the cut off day for that tax filing. She went on to say that she had been sending me several emails over the past couple of weeks about it. I explained to her that if something is of such importance that my phone works perfectly fine. Who in this day and time relies strictly on email for important business matters? If I had a medical emergency I surely wouldn't contact EMS by email. Anyway, days later, I fired this firm. I went to another CPA, who took all of my past years filings and bank statements and over 2 weeks worth of waiting, he called and wanted to meet. He took the time to go over the filings by Camilla J. Desmarais, and told me there was no reason at all why I should owe any taxes whatsoever for the past 3 years. So he pointed out to me that this firm actually put my company on a 5 year depreciation for my fixed asset purchases. Fixed asset purchases which my new CPA explained to me that the IRS under Section 179 allowed me to take 100% depreciation on the items purchased. Needless to say, I have been paying taxes on my federal and state returns that not necessary under IRS Code. So my new CPA is now filing amended returns to get all the tax money paid in, back.
I've been using these guys for several years. I own a consulting company. They are great. Some people want to blame others for themselves.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND
This same firm in 2015, told me that I owed almost 20k in taxes, and I was told this by her assistant. When I told Camilla that I wanted her to review my taxes, the burden was reduced to less than 9k. Folks, you do what you want, but if you want nothing but a pencil pusher cpa firm and you want to pay a monthly accounting premium and then pay huge filing fees at years end, then this is the place for you. I'm very disappointed and upset of the money this firm has cost me, all the while I'm thinking i'm being represented when in fact i'm being gouged.
Great Team! Professional, Responsive, Timely! I Recommend!
